December is here, meaning 2011 is about to end and jump into 2012. Are you ready? Have you taken time of reflection to set intentional goals for the new year?
Fall and winter are my favorite time of year for reflection. In October while running with our two beautiful border collies, the fall harvest of summer sun was under way. While running in wooded acres, fall colors, crisp air, and sunshine, I was reflecting on was one of our local organizations Missoula Business Women's Network message for this year, "Courage and Passion...Seeds for Success."
What this means for me, fall has always been a time of reflection. Looking at opportunities gained and lost. Perhaps putting away old habits and putting forth new habits for the new year. The trees are ready for a deep rest, fields are put to bed until next year. New seeds are readied for the next harvest, and opportunity to put old material into compost..."old" is still usable for new seeds of opportunity!
During this time of reflection the ah-ha moment was 'compost'. Every year around October and November compost is a place for me to put thoughts, attitudes, business opportunities, relationships, and habits not working in my life and cultivate them into the compost. Wisdom and growth in these things put into the compost is now there to mature, fuel, and cultivate the seeds for new ideas, passion, vision, and dreams.
A great quote from Paul Martinelli, to reflect on things in your life in need of a toss into the compost, "You must give up something of lesser value....to gain something of greater value." How true this is for a weekly meeting not working, current job situation, co-dependent relationships...whatever it is you are spending valuable time on with lesser value or return...toss it out and cultivate it into some of greater value.
Warm Wishes for a Blessed Week.
