AUTHENTIC SELF - Courage to Possess Perfection
![]() |
| MBN Bitterroot Subnetwork - September 2012 |
Collaborating with Jennifer Rivera on a subject to kick off Missoula Businesswomen's Network first sub-network meeting of the year; and to add value to DeDe Adams message for MBN this year "....inspiring others to Blossom!"
Jennifer and I were experiencing the same opportunity of non-authentic people in our business and personal lives. Definition of 'authentic: individuals hold the same values and beliefs from a business meeting, networking opportunity, school, and family functions.
From our collaboration came the four laws of Authentic Self: Law of Character, Law of the Lid, Law of Perfection, and Law of Celebration
Law of Character
Authentic self is our self-image and character
Core of our character is our values,
beliefs, experiences, and set points
Best way to start developing core values is the Golden Rule, start listing the values and beliefs you hold true of others.
Be humble in grace and pray for others, send cheer even if they are
adversarial. Love
your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you,
pray for those
who mistreat you. . . do to
others as you would have them do to you.
(Luke 6:27-31 The Golden Rule)
Devote time and energy to discover
our passion, talent, and value; we will step
into authentic self; destiny.
into authentic self; destiny.
Passion + Talent+ Values + Destiny = Genius
Genius is living in our passion, purpose, talent, gifts, and character. This is where
we walk into a room and people state; "you look great what have you been doing?"
we walk into a room and people state; "you look great what have you been doing?"
Live our
PURPOSE. . . Being JOYFUL daily
Definition: Limitation of
achieving higher than we can today. A lid inhibits our ability to be more
tomorrow than we are today. Self
limiting beliefs put a ceiling
on our lives.
·
We do
not see things as they are; we see things as we are.
·
See life
full; through faith provision will be fruitful
·
How we
see our self = attitude
“No matter what happens to you, positive attitude comes from within.
Your circumstances and your contentment are unrelated.” J. Maxwell
Law of Perfection
Belief, Dream,
Passion, Growth
Experience gives us opportunity to plant seeds of change; to
encourage, nurture new beginnings, and the courage to do so.Through grace and humility we can find ‘perfection’ of our
purpose, desire(s), passion(s), dream(s) and value.
It is what I want!
There is no longer a belief that I can’t.
It is what I want!
- Celebrate making the 5 cold-calls today
- Celebrate the 2 hang-ups.....why? Because you can now devote energy to potential clients who are open and willing to receive what you have to offer
- Celebrate a return call
- Celebrate big and small, this also mentors our employees and youth the wins are wonderful and the losses are great learning opportunities we did not have to pay for :)
- Celebrating ignites others to success
Would love to know what you are celebrating!

LEAD BY CHOICE
We have heard said if you want something you have never had, you have to do something you've never done. If we are in a state of leading with blinders we will continually produce the same results. Meaning if we do not see greater abundance, we cannot produce or receive greater abundance. In this state we produce only what we believe in, and what we 'have always done', limiting our ability to give and receive greater abundance.
Limiting beliefs are ideas we have accepted as truths. When we look at life through a child's perspective, limiting beliefs are not there. Children are naturally curious and enthusiastic. They look at life as a big dream, imagination surrounds them. As we grow older some of us lose enthusiasm for life and become discouraged.
We must remember no matter what disappointments or difficulties we experience do not let let them sideline our passion and self belief. Every state of life presents obstacles, trials, triumphs, and failure.
My friend and mentor Ed Decosta tells a great story. Ed and his family were on a beach during spring break and observed two brothers conversation as one is talking about self-belief and accepted truth to each other.
Brother One: Come on! The waves are awesome!Brother Two: But I might get hurt.
Brother One: Ya, but you won't die!!!!!
Brother Two: O.K. then.
The two brothers then ran to the water, playing in awesome waves for the rest of the day.
Why this story? We observe childlike curiosity and enthusiastic attitude that everything is going to be alright no matter what happens. When we do not choose to move forward we choose to die. As leaders when we choose to not move forward or 'change' our organizations die .
In the conversation of the two brothers can you identify the 'accepted truth', of limiting belief? What 'accepted truth' have you personally identified?
Lead by Choice,

FORGIVE AND LEAD
To be a leader we must forgive others quickly, freely, and without asking for anything else in return.
In a Mastermind discussion this morning the question arose, "What are some tools you all use to move past anger, resentment of other peoples arrogance, greed etc...How do you all move-on?"
WOW, what a powerful question and one most of us ask on a regular basis in the same form stated above or in another form.
The strongest tool and the one guaranteed to move us past intolerance, ignorance, and the greed of others is FORGIVENESS. We all know it is hard to forgive others who have wronged us or others, but to forgive releases us from the negative energy attached to other peoples actions, in-actions, and words.
To forgive others we must learn to forgive ourselves first. Why? Because if we are not kind and gentle to ourselves we will lack empathy, kindness, compassion, and care for others.
Melodrama is found in one or our oldest books the Bible. Forgiveness is at almost every turn throughout history. This stuff might happen in the Bible, but certainly not in the hard-nosed modern world of business. But think again. Forgiveness and compassion are powerful, boundless forces, and they belong in the world of business as much as they do in familial relationships whether biblical or modern. (L.Woolfe)
Five Forgive and Lead Tools
- Forgive self and others
- Fail forward
- Practice the Golden Rule
- Set aside time for self-reflection
- Move to I Statements; I feel hurt when.... I feel frustrated when....
What are your Forgive and Lead Tools?
